Devops Engineer

DevOps Engineer Philadelphia, PA Job Description: Reporting to the VP of Engineering, Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with directors and team leads, bringing the vision of operational excellence to life. This position will assist in setting a strategic direction for the team and maintain a stable and reliable environment for our commercial SaaS solution. As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will: Create theme-based roadmaps that align with product, engineering, and security goals. • Enable the adoption of serverless and API based technology while maintaining security requirements and reducing financial and resource spend. • Embed security and reliability engineering within DevOps practices and pipelines. • Collaborate with engineering leaders and product teams to design high level architecture and patterns that fulfill organizational requirements. • Participate in on-call rotations, performing handoffs when alerts reach a high threshold, leading blameless postmortems and security incident response. • Create a more sustainable working environment by reducing toil. You may be a fit for this role if you: • Have strong leadership skills, but still have the chops to work hands-on promoting a culture of systems thinking, DevOps practices and individual ownership of security practices and compliance protocols. • Have experience hosting web frameworks scaled to support millions of users • Have experience with infrastructure management using tools such as AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Docker • Have experience architecting and building complex systems with high performance, scalability, and reliability requirements of large 24/7 systems • Have built production deployment pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitLab • Have implemented distributed task queues (e.g., Celery) scaled to hundreds or thousands of concurrent jobs on large data sets • Are comfortable defining objectives, prioritizing months of work, and proposing plans and roadmaps to meet these objectives • Know your way around relational databases and NoSQL databases, being skilled at writing queries as well as tuning and managing the configurations • Have no problem integrating a new service with no prior experience with that specific technology • Have a thorough understanding of security and encryption, understanding what is required to keep user information protected under any type of attack • Are comfortable working in 2-week sprints and pushing production-quality changes that meets business requirements at the end of each sprint • Have proven your ability to estimate work timelines and communicate appropriately when issues arise • Love a fast-paced environment and thrive when tackling the hardest challenges • Desire to learn new skills and approach problems from unique angles • Share our values, and work in accordance with those values • Understand that everybody you work with is human, and is trying their best, and can expect to have the same understanding provided to you • Are comfortable self-leading, working to improve yourself and your abilities • Have an all-in attitude, ready to jump in to help keep things running regardless of what time it is Projects you could work on: • Reworking our distributed task queues to automatically scale to support hundreds to thousands of simultaneous jobs, guaranteeing very high uptime and completion rates, supporting retries for failing jobs • Tuning and improving our infrastructure to support efficiency, reliability and scalability while maximizing performance • Building a CI/CD pipeline to safely push changes to production with no downtime at the click of a single button, which also deploys seamlessly our environments as frequently as code is updated Company Benefits: • Applicable for full time employees Flexible work schedule, unlimited PTO, physical and mental wellness benefits, medical coverage, parental leave, 401K, company-sponsored events, referral program, onsite gym, dog friendly office, snacks in the office, commuter benefits, onsite massages.
